Plastic pollution in Ghana is caused mainly by a lack of plastic waste management infrastructure for collection, sorting and recycling. The lack of financing and support mechanisms only worsens the fact. Improper disposal of plastic waste by locals as well as polymer based clothing sent from the Global North, also contributes to the problem. Ghana generates around 0.84 million tons of municipal plastic waste annually, which only increases every year. The growth happens mainly due to the steady population
